OPERATING ROOM NURSE

SUMMARY
The Operating Room Registered Nurse participates in all areas of patient care. Assumes responsibility for consistent and proper functioning of the Operating Room equipment and room. The nurse utilizes a high quality standard of care and nursing processes consistent with current practice and updated knowledge to collaborate with other health care disciplines, encompassing the needs of the patient and family. Regular hours, no calls, no weekends.

REQUIREMENTS
•Nursing diploma, OR experience required.
•At least 2-3 years nursing experience.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSBILITIES:
•Demonstrates adequate understanding of procedures and expected postoperative course.
•Displays complete knowledge and understanding of Operating Room nursing care in the freestanding ambulatory surgery setting.
•Demonstrates awareness of symptoms and possible complications of procedure and anesthesia and initial treatment.
•Utilizes strict aseptic technique in all appropriate situations and monitors adherence to such by all personnel as sterile field. Initiates actions when breaks in technique occur.
•Assists in transport and positioning of patients when necessary.
•Knowledge should be up-to-date on the actions of all pharmaceuticals and anesthetic agents.
•Administers nursing care following established policies for the technical aspects of care, i.e., medication administration and care of IV sites.
•Utilizes the nursing process in patient assessment including the physical, psychosocial, neurological and educational needs of the patients.
•Accepts full responsibility for all nursing care needed by patients including treatments, IV starts, monitoring vital signs and patient teaching.
•Implements physician’s orders accurately with the knowledge and understanding of each order.
•Takes appropriate actions in emergency situations such as cardiac/respiratory crises or arrests, drug reactions, fire or disaster occurrences.

SURGICAL TECHNICIAN

SUMMARY
Under the supervision of a registered nurse and according to established nursing standards and surgery center policies and procedures, assists with surgical procedures as a scrub member of the surgical team. Prepares/Reprocesses surgical instruments and maintains a clean and safe surgical environment. M-F regular surgery center hours.

REQUIREMENTS

•1-2 year experienced surgical technician required.
•Experience working with sterilization techniques preferred.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSBILITIES:
•In accordance with doctor’s preference and established standards, ensures the presence of all instruments and equipment, and supplies necessary for surgical procedures; inspects all instrument trays after placed onto sterile field to ensure all required items are available. Responsible for care and handling of all surgical equipment used.
•Set up sterile field as necessary for specific surgical procedure. Maintains neat, orderly and safe sterile field and practices economy in the use of all sterile supplies.
•Utilizes strict aseptic technique in all appropriate situations and monitors adherence to such by all personnel as sterile field. Initiates actions when breaks in technique occur.
•Assists surgeon with gowning, draping and gloving, and anticipates surgeon’s needs in order to expedite the procedure, thus minimizing the patient’s exposure to trauma.
•Assists in maintaining accurate counts of sponges, needles and instruments, as per standard.
•Assists in the transport and positioning of patients when necessary.
•Cleans surgical area and helps to clean OR room following surgical procedures, properly disposes of contaminated supplies and linen.
•Performs duties in the instruments processing area such as washing, assembling and sterilizing instruments and ensuring they are functional. Stores instruments and supplies, monitors dated packs and supplies to ensure sterility. Runs initial daily sterilizer tests and records results appropriately.
